Day 125 - detour

On my bike ride today, I encountered a part of the trail that has been closed. A detour was in place that took riders through a nice neighborhood near the American River. I did a double take when I saw this chicken and her chicks on the front lawn of a home. Even though we live in a rural area with all kinds of animals as an active part of the neighborhood, I am still surprised by the sight of free-range chickens out on the lawn. A rooster was hanging out at the house next door.

Isn't it great when detours lead to unexpected, delightful sights?
Bet those free-range eggs are tasty!

This is so cute, I LOVE baby chicks, as long as I don't envision them as someones dinner!

Karen, absolutely! Keep your eyes open when life gives you detours.

darlin - I wasn't sure, but that sure seems like a lot of chicks for one chicken mama. I dunno...
